Trinidad's PK lifts Sage past unbeaten CMSV

Riverdale, NY – The Sage Colleges' men's soccer team travelled to the College of Mt. St. Vincent's for a Skyline Conference match on Saturday night. The Gators posted a 1-0 win to remain unbeaten in the league (2-0 Skyline Conference, while improving to 4-3-1 overall. The loss was the first of the season for the Dolphins (9-1, 0-1 Skyline Conference).

Sage's junior midfielder Gustavo Trinidad (Mamaroneck, NY/Mamaroneck) connected for the lone goal in the action as struck first in the action as he converted a penalty kick at the 58:36 mark. The goal is the fifth of the year for Trinidad as he leads Sage in scoring with 13 points (5 goals, 3 assists). He now has 16 career goals and 49 career points with five game-winning goals.

Sage's senior keeper Tim Madden (Watertown, NY/Watertown) recorded six saves in posting the shutout win, the third of the season for the Gators.

The two teams battled through a scoreless first half with Sage holding a slim 8-6 edge in shots after 45 minutes. The Gators hit a post in the opening stanza and had a goal waived off on offside. Both goalkeepers were sharp in the opening frame, with Melchor stopping four shots and Tim Madden from Sage making three saves.

The Dolphins came out of halftime and outshot the Gators 4-1 in the first 10 minutes, but could not solve Madden. He made a save from inside the box on Victor Ramirez (Los Angeles, Calif.) to keep the game scoreless at the 51:44 mark of the contest.

Sage would convert the only goal of the game just under seven minutes later after a penalty kick was awarded. Gustavo Trinidad buried his fifth goal of the season at 58:36 for the only marker of the contest.

The game was tightly contested throughout, with Sage holding a slim 15-13 advantage in shots overall and an 8-6 edge in shots on goal. Corner kicks went 3-2 in favor of the Mount and fouls on the night were whistled 17-14 against the visitors. Sage finished with 10 different players with a shot.
