Ullman breaks Sage Three-point mark as Gators triumph, 88-77

Albany, NYThe Sage Colleges' men's basketball team hosted the Bears of St. Joseph's College-Brooklyn in a Skyline Conference play on Saturday. Sage tallied the 88-77 win on Wednesday to earn a split on the season with the Bears and improves to 14-7 overall and 12-4 in the league. The Bears drop to 11-10 overall and 8-9 in the league. Sage's junior guard Brett Ullman (Sharon Springs, NY/Sharon Springs Central) became the program's all-time career three-point leader as he buried three shots off the bench in the second half to earn his 99th career three-pointer.

After leading by as many as 13 points in the first half (27-14, 9:27), the Bears let the Gators get back to one at the break, 36-35. Sage's senior guards and Travis Gill (Brooklyn, NY/Xaverian) and Andre Robinson (Fort Pierce, FL/Fort Pierce Westwood) made three baskets from beyond the arch to help Sage back into the action.

For the Bears, senior forward Michael Megafu (Jamaica, NY/Nazareth Regional) had 10 points in the first half as he led his team with a 5-6 effort from the floor. The contest saw four ties before the last one came at 40-40 at 18:23 and seconds later Sage's senior guard Jorrdan McCray (Orlando, FL/Wekiva) buried a three-pointer to give his team a 43-40 lead and propelled the Gators' offense to the home victory. McCray finished with 20 points, while senior Melvin Ford (Voorhees, NJ/Eastern Regional) added a double-double with 15 points and 12 rebounds.

Robinson and junior Marcus Patterson (Bronx, NY/Mount Saint Michael Academy) collected 14 points each, while Gill tallied 12 points. Ford continues his climb on the program's career scoring list as he is No. 3 with his 929 career points, while owning the career rebounding record with his 701 boards. Ullman surpassed the record set by Pat Lanoue (96, 2010-2012) and brings 99 career three-pointers into Saturday's home match-up.

For St. Joseph's, five players finished in double-digits as Megafu led the squad with 16 points and eight rebounds. Junior guard Christian Giles (East Elmhurst, NY/St. John's Prep) tallied 14 points and made four baskets from three-point range on seven tries. Senior guard Matt O'Neill (Brooklyn, NY/St. Edmunds Prep) added 12 points with five assists and six rebounds for the Bears.

Sage is back in action on February 6 hosting Maritime College in a 3 p.m. Skyline Conference contest, while St. Joseph's College-Brooklyn travels to Yeshiva University on February 6 in an 8:30 p.m. contest.
