Ullman's off the bench effort sparks Gators to 90-71 win over Maritime

Throggs Neck, NYThe Sage Colleges' men's basketball team travelled to Maritime College for the squad's first Skyline Conference game of the year. Sage led 44-32 at the break and cruised to a 90-71 win on Monday night. With the victory, Sage improves to 8-4 overall and 6-1 in the Skyline Conference. Maritime drops to 2-8 overall and 1-2 in the league.

Sage had five players finish in double-digit scoring as the team combined to hit 52.8% of its shots from the floor (38-72), while making 12 of 22 three-pointers for a red-hot 54.5% shooting. Junior guard Brett Ullman (Sharon Springs, NY/Sharon Springs Central) poured in 20 points off the bench as he connected for six three-pointers in the contest. Shooting 6-10 from three-point range, Ullman was 7-11 overall and now has a team-best 24 three-pointers on the season. Ullman also continues his run to break the program's career three-point mark as he now has 93 three-pointers, just three shy of tying the mark held by Pat Lanoue (96, 2010-2012).

Sage's junior Marcus Patterson (Bronx, NY/Mount Saint Michael Academy) paced the team with 17 points and seven rebounds, senior forward Melvin Ford (Voorhees, NJ/Eastern Regional) had 14 points with 13 rebounds. Ford who is Sage's all-time career rebounding leader now has 620 rebounds, while standing No. 5 in career scoring with 854 points and is now No. 4 on the all-time career scoring list, just six points shy of tying Jeff Stopera (860 pts., 2009-2014).

Adding to the team's success on Monday night was senior Travis Gill (Brooklyn, NY/Xaverian) and junior Rob Mills (Newburgh, NY/Newburgh Free Academy) as they had 10 and 11 points, respectively.

Sage is back in action on January 7 hosting SUNY-Old Westbury at 8 p.m. in Kahl Gym in a Skyline Conference contest.
