ALBANY, N.Y. – Russell Sage College closed the season by falling 5-2 to visiting Alfred this afternoon.
Sophomore Tirzah Spivey (Clifton Park, NY/Schenectady) and junior Emma Vander Baan (Barre, MA/Quabbin Regional) were victorious in the singles portion of the Empire 8 Conference Sunday matinee to account for the RSC points.
Spivey won 6-2, 6-4 at number one, while Vander Baan won 6-4, 6-1 playing number five.
Today's result, combined with those around the conference, had the Gators (4-8/2-4 E8) miss out on a spot in the E8 Championship Tournament. Alfred (11-2/5-1 E8) will compete in Friday's Semifinals.
Senior Day: Before the contest, Russell Sage College Athletics recognized Claire Connolly (Little Falls, NY/Little Falls), a graduate student, junior Gwendolyn Eichen (Moriah Center, NY/Moriah Central), and Maria Inserra (Theresa, NY/Indian River), a graduate student, for their contributions to the women's tennis program.
