Brooklyn, NY—The Sage College's women's basketball team travelled to Brooklyn College on Saturday for the 2015 ECAC Division III Metro Semifinals. Brooklyn posted a 61-55 win to advance to the finals for the third straight year and will face Rutgers-Newark in the finals on Sunday. Lehman improves to 21-7 overall, while Sage's season ends at 18-8.
On the season, the Gators wrap the year with a number of high-water marks under the direction of rookie head coach Allison Coleman. The Gators broke the record for most wins a season (18), while recording a 12-game win streak as well in 2014-2015.
Brooklyn led 30-24 at the break, before the Gator mounted a run in the second half as they went on an 8-2 run and took a 52-50 lead. Brooklyn tied the action and then went on a 9-0 run before the Gators scored the final points of the contest taking the game, 61-55.
Leading the way for the Gators were seniors Megan Bowman (Dannemora, NY/Saranac) and Krysta Vanacore (Poughquag, NY/Our Lady of Lourdes) as they each finished with 12 points. Sophomore Krystyn Knockwood (Troy, NY/Troy) added 13 rebounds to tie her personal-best in the contest as she added four blocks and six points.
Lehman's Megan Campbell finished with 24 points and 10 rebounds, while Vanessa D'Ambrosia added 17 points for the Lightening.
Saturdays contest marks the final game for Sage's seniors Bowman, Vanacore, Amie Jefferson (Albany, NY/Colonie Central), Sara Tironi (Cambridge, NY/Cambridge Central), and Lea McClain (Schenectady, NY/Mohonasen).
Bowman wraps her career as the No. 3 all-time leading scorer with 1,080 points. She finished her career with a school career record for 458 assists, while finishing No. 2 in career steals with 258. She ranks No. 8 all-time in career points per game average with an 11.4 ppg average.
Jefferson played in a program-best 101 game, while also holding the career record for most blocks with 161, while adding 788 rebounds. She finishes No. 2 in career rebounding, while adding 651 points in her time as a Gator.
Tironi added 624 career points in her three seasons on the team in 76 games played (No. 15), while adding 428 rebounds and finished No. 11 in career rebounds. Vanacore added 71 career three-point baskets during her career and is No. 8 on the all-time list. McClain had 48 career three-pointers and is No. 15 on the all-time list in 75 games (No. 15).
