Sage's Matt Farbotko repeats as NABC Honors Court Pick

Kansas City, MO-- The Sage Colleges' men's basketball team had one student-athlete placed on The National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) NABC Honors Court. The team recognizes those collegiate basketball student-athletes who excelled in academics during the 2012-13 season. The NABC Honors Court recognizes the talents and gifts that these men possess off the court, and the hard work they exhibit in the classroom. In order to be named to the Honors Court, an athlete must meet a high standard of academic criteria. The qualifications are as follows:

1. Academically a junior or senior and a varsity player.

2. Cumulative G.P.A. of 3.2 or higher at the conclusion of the 2012-13 academic year.

3. Students must have matriculated at least one year at their current institution.

4. Member of an NCAA Division I, II, III, or NAIA Institution.

Sage's senior forward Matt Farbotko (Rouses Point, NY/Northeastern Clinton) was named to the NABC's Honors Court for the second straight year. A law and society major at Sage, he graduated this year becoming the young men's basketball program's first four-year letterwinner and the program's all-time leading scorer.

He closed his stellar collegiate career at Sage with 1,244 points after becoming the first player in the team's history to join the 1,000 point club. He also added a personal-best 413 points over the course of his senior season, which is also a Sage single-season scoring record after starting 27 games for the Gators this last year. His career resume includes 87 starts in 94 games played with 523 rebounds and a 13.2 ppg average during his four years as a member of the first Gator men's basketball team.

During his career, he earned numerous awards and honors. As a rookie in 2009-2010 he was cited as the Skyline Conference Rookie of the Year. Twice during his career he helped the young Gators to ECAC Tournament Appearances including a spot in the 2013 ECAC Metro Tournament after also earning the Gators' first appearance in the Skyline Men's Basketball Tournament at the conclusion of the 2012-2013 season.

Over the course of his last season he earned numerous honors. He opened the year with a selection to the Plattsburgh State Tip-Off All-Tournament Team. He also earned a pair of Skyline Co-Player of the Week honors twice, while also earning a selection as the ECAC Metro Player of the Week. In addition, he was placed on the Skyline Conference Honor Roll on three separate occasions. A two-time Sage Scholar-Athlete Honoree, he was also named to the Skyline Conference Scholar-Athlete Team four times during his career, while also back to back selections to Sage's Athletic Honor Society.
