Troy, NY--The Sage Colleges' women's volleyball team hosted the Raptors of Bard College at the Neff Athletic Center on Tuesday night. The host Gators tallied a 3-0 (25-19, 25-21, 25-11) win and in the process delivered the 100th Sage career win for their mentor, Sandy Augstein-Collins. A 1987 graduate of Russell Sage College, she now boasts a record of 100-65 as the head coach of the women's volleyball program. With the win, Sage improves to 13-7 and extends its win streak to four matches, while the Bard Raptors drop to 8-13.
Sage's senior tri-captain Mickey Mango (Saratoga Springs, NY/Saratoga Springs) tallied a team-best nine kills, while hitting .333 in the match. Both junior Sara Campolieta (Fulton, NY/G. Ray Bodley) and junior outside hitter Michayla Berard (Binghamton, NY/Susquehanna Valley) contributed six kills apiece, while Mango added two total blocks.
Sophomore middle hitter Alyssa Nellis (Johnstown, NY/Johnstown) added four kills while adding three total blocks. Sage's senior right side Morgan Robinson (Ballston Lake, NY/Shenendehowa) added five kills as the Gators had a .224 attack percentage in the match. While holding Bard to a .110 hitting percentage.
Sage got a match-high 14 digs from junior libero Siena Wilder (Ballston Spa, NY/Burnt Hills Ballston Spa) who also had three aces. Sophomore defensive specialist Missy Scheiderman (Middletown, NY/Minisink Valley) also posted eight digs while junior setter Rachel Liebig (Hartford, NY/Hartford) had 24 setting assists with an ace and four digs.
Liebig now has 1,984 career setting assists and is ranked No. 4. She is closing in on her 2,000th career setting assist, which would make her one of just four Sage players with 2,000 or more career setting assists. Wilder has amassed 138 service aces already at Sage and vaulted to No. 8 on the Gator career list. Mango has 243 career blocks and stands fourth at Sage, while her 641 career kills is No. 9. Berard has 544 kills and is No. 10 and Robinson is right behind her with 539 career kills.
Bard's rookie outside hitter Sofia Koukia (Athens, Greece) had 13 kills and had a .333 attack percentage in the action, while adding a .929 reception percentage making just one error 13 attempts. Rookie setter Victoria Chou (Singapore) had 26 setting assists for the Raptors while adding 12 digs and three kills. Sophomore outside hitter Philippine Alba (San Francisco, CA) connected for 10 digs with a .950 reception percentage (19 attempts with one error).
Sage is back in action on October 8 hosting MCLA in the Neff Athletic Center in a 7 p.m. non-conference match-up. Bard College is back in action on October 10 hosting a tri-match with SUNY-Old Westbury and Castleton University.
