Estremera and Ackerman earn acclaim from Skyline

New York, NY – Sage's junior women's tennis team member Melissa Estremera (Millbrook, NY/Millbrook)  was honored as the Skyline Conference Women's Tennis Rookie of the Week for her play in helping the Gators return to the league tournament.

A newcomer to the sport of tennis, she posted a key win at No. 3 doubles in helping the Gators defeat Purchase 6-3 and in doing so, collect the No. 4 seed in the 2014 Skyline Conference Tournament. She owns a 1-3 record in limited singles play this fall, while standing at 2-2 in doubles action this fall.

Also named to the weekly honor roll was senior co-captain Kirsten Ackerman (Rensselaer, NY/Guilderland) after adding a singles and doubles victory in the contest with Purchase. The most decorated player in program history, Ackerman has a 14-2 singles record this fall, while standing at 10-3 in doubles play. Overall on her career, Ackerman who was the 2012 and 2013 Skyline Conference Player of the Year, is now 78-15 on her Gator career, while owning a 44-5 mark in singles play at Sage.

Sage opens play in the 2014 Skyline Conference Tennis Tournament on October 23 travelling to top seeded Farmingdale State for a 4 p.m. contest in the semifinals. The Gators are 7-7 on the year, after finishing conference play with a 3-3 mark under the guidance of rookie head coach Tom Fashouser.
