Maher tallies 5 points as Sage downs Purchase, 4-0

Troy, NY---The Sage Colleges' women's soccer team hosted the Panthers of Purchase College on Wednesday evening at RPI's Renwyck Field.  The Gators came out and recorded the key conference win as they beat the Panthers, 4-0 to improve to 3-6 overall and 3-1 in the league. The loss puts Purchase at 5-5 overall and 3-1 in the Skyline Conference.

Sage jumped out to an early lead as rookie Nicole Maher (Glen Cover, NY/Saint Dominic) put the Gators up 1-0 with her goal at 6:57 on a feed from as sophomore midfielder Gianna Sergovich (Watervliet, NY/Catholic). Maher scored again on a feed from rookie Kyleigh Roby (Cohoes, NY/Cohoes) at 8:26. Maher would fijnish the night with five points after assisting on the team's third goal. She leads Sage with her seven goals and five assists and 19 points.

Sage's freshman Sara Tironi (Cambridge, NY/Cambridge) added the team's final goal of the first half and gave Sage a 3-0 halftime lead. Freshman midfielder Kelsey Woron (Baltimore, MD/Chesapeake) converted the cross from Tironi at 57:44 to wrap the Gators' scoring on the night.

Sage's sophomore keeper Teagan Waddingham (Coeymans Hollow, NY/Ravena Coeymans-Selkirk) finished the night with four saves in the action en route to her third shutout of the season. Purchase's junior Jess Lindsay (Rochester, NY/Irondequoit) took the loss with no saves on the night.

Sage returns to action on October 9 travelling to the College of Mt. St. Vincent for an 8 p.m. Skyline Conference match to be held at Tibbetts Brook Park. Purchase will face Skyline Conference foe, St. Joseph's College on October 6 in a 1 p.m. match on the road.
