Knights top Sage win in women's lacrosse action

Albany, NY —The Sage Colleges' women's lacrosse team hosted the Knights of Mt. St. Mary College on Tuesday night in a non-conference match. MSMC posted a 20-9 win to improve to 1-3 on the year as Sage falls to 0-3.

MSMC led 13-4 at the half and was paced by the play sophomore attacker Megan Shalvey (Blauvelt, NY/Tappan Zee) who scored six goals. Rookie Victoria Ward (Oceanside, NY/Oceanside) added five goals with an assist to also finish with six points.

Sage's rookie Caroline Musinski (Bennington, VT/Mt. Anthony Union) collected three goals for Sage , while sophomore Paige Stewart (Johnstown, NY/Johnstown) picked up two goals with and assists. Senior Brittany Gage (Pine Bush, NY/Pine Bush) also collected a pair of goals in the contest as well as four groundball pickups.

Gage now has 61 career points which ranks seventh at Sage, while her 43 goals is ninth.  She is currently second all-time with 118 career ground balls, just eight away from breaking the career mark held by Monica Koralus with 125 (2014-2017).

In goal for the Gators, rookie Madeline Butta (Millbrook, NY/Our Lady of Lourdes) made her first career start. She made five saves with six goals allowed in suffering the loss. Sage also used juniors Marina Azab (Niskayuna, NY/Niskayuna) and Carly Plaisance (Bennington, VT/Mt. Anthony Union) in net. Plaisance worked 20:35 in goal and had two saves with seven goals allowed. Azab played the second half with four saves and seven goals allowed.

MSMC's junior keeper Jackie Finkel (Warwick, NY/Warwick) picked up the win in net after making four saves with nine goals allowed.

Sage returns to action on March 12 hosting Purchase College in a 4 p.m. non-conference game at ACP Stadium.  Mt. St. Mary College travels to Castleton for a 4 p.m. contest, also on March 12.
