Gators fall in home opener to Elms, 12-7

Albany, NY– The Sage Colleges' women's lacrosse team hosted the Trailblazers of Elms College on Thursday night on the campus of University at Albany at John Fallon Field. Elms posted the 12-7 win to improve to 1-3, while Sage drops to 0-2.

Sage led 2-0 before Elms reeled off three unanswered goals to take a 3-2 lead. Sage tied the game again at 4-4 before 6-4 lead. Sage pulled within one goal, down 6-5 with 8:59 left in the half. Elms took an 8-5 halftime lead as senior midfielder Kayla Narey (South Hadley, MA/South Hadley) had three of her team-best five goals in the first half.

For the Gators, graduate student Shirah Fudin (Delmar, NY/Bethlehem Central) added three goals, including the first two scores of the game. A 2014 IWLCA Scholar-Athlete last spring, Fudin now has 17 career goals and is No. 9 on the all-time career scoring list. Sophomore midfielder Monica Koralus (Verbank, NY/Millbrook) added three goals and an assist for the contest and now has 18 career goals, good enough for the No. 8 spot on the all-time Sage scoring list.

Also scoring her first career goal for the Gators in the contest was rookie Alyssa Nellis (Johnstown, NY/Johnstown).

Elms got three goals from junior attacker Jillian Pirog (Ludlow, MA/Holyoke Catholic), while senior Nora McDonough (South Hadley, MA/South Hadley) added a pair.

In goal for the Gators, sophomore Jackie St. Pierre (Averill Park, NY/Averill Park) suffered the loss after making 15 saves in the action. Elms' sophomore keeper Meeghan O'Connor (Fall River, MA/Bishop Connolly) picked up the win after she made eight saves.

Sage returns to action on March 24 travelling to face MCLA in a non-conference match-up at 3:30 as the game will take place on the campus of Williams College.
