Houghton stuns Gators, 64-63

Houghton, NY–Houghton College's women's basketball team shocked Sage on Saturday with a 64-63 win over the Gators in Empire 8 play. The win puts the Highlanders at 3-14 overall and 1-5 in the E8, while Sage drops to 9-9 overall and is now 5-2 in the league.

In a game that featured 12 ties and 16 lead changes, Houghton was able to emerge with the win as Emily Taylor hit a lay-up with 0:27 left to play to spot Houghton to a 64-63 lead. Sage's sophomore Sammy Pasinella (Troy, NY/Mechanicville) missed a layup with 0:04 left and fouled Houghton's Alex Steele who went to the free throw line with 0:01 left to play and missed both shots. Sage got the ball back with 0.8 seconds left to play but was unable to get a shot off as time expired.

Senior forward Megan Flynn (Hoosick Falls, NY/Hoosick Falls Central) added a double-double with 18 points and 13 rebounds for her 13th career double-double. She leads the team with six double-doubles this year. She shot 6-10 from the floor with two assists and a block.

Junior Madasyn Bush (Pottersville, NY/North Warren Central) as she had 15points with eight rebounds and two steals, while sophomore Sammy Pasinella (Troy, NY/Mechanicville) picked up 11 points for Sage.

Graduate performer Kaitlyn Bowman (Chateaugay, NY/Saranac) picked up eight points with seven rebounds and six assists for Sage which held a big advantage on the boards, 53-39. Bowman became one of just six players to have worn the Sage uniform in 100 or more games today.

Sage will be in action on January 28 travelling to Elmira College for a 7:30 p.m. Empire 8 contest on Tuesday.
