Flynn tallies double-double as Sage tops Alfred, 72-46

Alfred, NY–Sage's women's basketball team collected a convincing Empire 8 road win on Friday night as the Gators beat Alfred, 72-46. The win puts Sage at 9-8 overall and 5-1 in the Empire 8. Alfred drops to 4-11 overall and 0-5 in the conference. Sage led 39-26 at the half and held the Saxons to just 10 points in both the third and fourth quarters en route to the league win.

Senior forward Megan Flynn (Hoosick Falls, NY/Hoosick Falls Central) added a double-double with 11 points and 12 rebounds for her 12th career double-double. She leads the team with five double-doubles this year and added two steals with an assist in the game playing just 20 minutes.

Graduate performer Kaitlyn Bowman (Chateaugay, NY/Saranac) led Sage with 15 points and handed out a career-best nine assists with seven rebounds and a steal in 24 minutes of work.

The Gators also collected double-digit scoring in the game from junior Madasyn Bush (Pottersville, NY/North Warren Central) as she had 10 points, while sophomore Sammy Pasinella (Troy, NY/Mechanicville) picked up 12 points and five rebounds. Sage had 11 different players figure into the scoring on Friday, while limiting Alfred to a 32.1% shooting performance (17-53) with a commanding 47-to-25 lead on the boards.

Sage's senior guard Gessica Patregnani (Troy, NY/Lansingburgh) added seven points as did rookie guard Renna Poulin (Troy, NY/Tamarac), which was a tied her career high.

Sage's Bowman surpassed the 900 point plateau on Friday night as she now has 904 points. She also has 716 career rebounds while now playing in 99 career games as a Gator. She is poised to become one of just six players to have worn the Sage uniform in 100 or more games when she takes to the hardwood on Saturday.

Flynn now has 722 career points with 571 rebounds and is in the No. 7 spot in rebounding and now 16th in scoring. Patregani, who leads Division III in three-point field goal shooting with her impressive 64.2% shooting (34-53) has tallied 648 career points, while continuing her climb in the three-point record book at Sage. She has 141 which is fourth.

Sage will be in action on January 25 travelling to Houghton College for a 4 p.m. Empire 8 contest.
