Gators drop non-conference game to Smith

Albany, NY — The Sage Colleges' women's basketball team hosted the Pioneers of Smith College on Saturday afternoon in a non-conference game in Kahl Gym. Smith remains unbeaten as they earned a 72-50 road win over Sage and is now 5-0. Sage drops to 2-3.

Smith led 34-25 at the break and was paced by the play of sophomore forward Katelyn Pickunka (Westhampton, MA/Hampshire) as she had a double-double with 25 points and 10 rebounds. She was 7-7 from the floor and 11-12 from the free throw line with four blocks for the Pioneers.  Sophomore guard Shelle Gleissner (Los Angeles, CA/Serra) added 14 points with six steals and three assists, while rookie forward Amelia Clairmont (Laconia, NH/New Hampshire School) chipped in with 12 points along the way as the Pioneers shot 83.3% from the line for the game, making 20-of-24 free throws.  

Sage sophomore Meghan Murray (Watervliet, NY/Watervliet) added a personal-best 12 points and seven rebounds off the bench with three steals and four assists for the Gators. Junior Madasyn Bush (Pottersville, NY/North Warren Central) added eight points, while senior forward Megan Flynn (Hoosick Falls, NY/Hoosick Falls Central) had seven points with six rebounds before fouling out. Senior Kaitlyn Bowman (Chateaugay, NY/Saranac) finished with four points, six rebounds, three assists with two blocks and a steal for Sage.

Rookie guard Renna Poulin (Troy, NY/Tamarac) also had a career day as she finished with seven points and three rebounds.

Bowman checks in with 743 career points and is now just one points behind Kristen Marcinczyk (1992-1995) who had 744 career points and is 14th on the Gators' all-time scoring list. Bowman is currently fifth all-time in career rebounding with 614 rebounds, while ranking ninth in free throws made (169) and tied for 14th in career games played with 87. 

Flynn now has 567 career points, while adding 439 career rebounds and moved ahead of Kristin Alonzo (1999-2001) who was 11th with 436 rebounds.  

Sage is back in action on November 26 hosting RPI in a 5 p.m. non-conference contest, while Smith College is also in action on November 26 travelling to Keene State for a 5 p.m. road contest.
