Sage and Skidmore split doubleheader action on Thursday

Troy, NY –The Sage College's softball team hosted Skidmore College in a non-conference doubleheader on Thursday afternoon at Robison Field. Skidmore took game one, 7-4 and the Gators picked up a 5-1 in the nightcap. Sage is now 6-9 on the year, while Skidmore is now 7-11.

In the first game Sage held a 2-0 lead after the first inning, before Skidmore took a 3-2 lead in the top of the third. Sage scored a single run in the bottom of the third and fifth innings, but Skidmore tacked on a single run in the top half of the fourth and fifth innings with a pair in the top of the seventh.

Skidmore's junior Mackenzie Whiting (Ellington, CT/Ellington) connected for a double and a home run and finished the game with three RBI's after going 2-4. Rookie Kristina Foley (Brookhaven, NY/Bellport) had a triple and was 2-3 with an RBI for the Thoroughbreds.

Sage's junior first baseman Morgan Dunn (Cohoes, NY/Cohoes) was 2-3 with three RBIs with two runs scores. Sophomore short stop Jessica Adams (Nassau, NY/Columbia) had 2-3 with an RBI for the Gators.

In the circle, junior Cassie Fishkin (New City, NY/Clarkstown South) worked five innings with two strikeouts and four earned runs off six hits in earning the win as she improved to 6-5. Rookie Amanda Carilli (Dedham, MA/Dedham) worked two innings with a pair of strikeouts with just one hit allowed.

Sage's junior pitcher Katie Kovage (Hoosick Falls, NY/Hoosick Falls Central) worked 4.2 innings with four earned runs off five hits with a pair of walks and suffered the loss, dropping to 3-3. Freshman Rachael Lashway (Queensbury, NY/Glens Falls) worked 2.1 innings with one strikeouts off four hits with two earned runs.

In the nightcap, Sage jumped out to a 2-0 lead as senior Kristen Beikirch (Brockport, NY/Brockport) led off with a single, while freshman Alexa Silk (Freehold, NY/Greenville) reaches and the pair were driven in by Kovage, who had a two RBI double.

The Gators added three runs in the bottom of the second inning as Silk had a three run home run to pace Sage and finished the game going 2-4 with two runs scored and three RBI's. Kovage, the Gators' designated player was 1-3 with two RBI's.

Sophomore pitcher Lindsay Brace (Moriah, NY/Moriah Central) had the complete game win as she yielded just one unearned run, while fanning three in the action. She stands at 3-6 on the season.

Skidmore's Carilli took the loss in the nightcap after six innings with five earned runs off nine hits with no strikeouts.

Sage is back in action on April 3 hosting Sarah Lawrence College in a Skyline Conference double header at Robison Field at 3:30 p.m.
