Gators deliver first career win for Pompeo as they beat Purchase

Albany, NY – The Sage Colleges' men's volleyball team hosted Purchase College on Wednesday night in a Skyline Conference match. The Gators posted a 3-0 win (27-25, 25-20, 25-18) to collect the first career win for rookie head coach Jimmy Pompeo. Sage stands at 1-7 overall and 1-3 in the Skyline, while Purchase is now 2-5 overall and 1-3 in the league.

In the first set, Purchase jumped out to a21-14 lead, before the Gators clawed their way back and tied the action at 24-24. The Panthers were at set point up 24-21 before Sage rallied and took set one, 27-25.

Sage's senior captain Dylan Krowicki (Little Falls, NY/Little Falls) added 15 kills with a .278 attack percentage and had 12 digs for a double-double. Rookie Chris MacArthur (Hillsdale, NY/Taconic Hills) added six kills with a dig and had a .357 attack percentage. Senior setter Matthew DeGeyter (Hudson, NY/Hawthorne Valley) added 31 setting assists with three digs with a kill. Senior libero Cory Gransbury (Round Top, NY/Cairo-Durham) added six digs for the Gators. Senior captain Connor Thompson (Delmar, NY/CBA) added five kills with four digs and the Gators collected the first win of the year.

Purchase's freshman Kevin Carges (Brockport, NY/Brockport) added 17 kills with a .314 hitting percentage in the action, while connecting for six digs.  Senior outside Kevon Kareem Bruce (Hayes, Jamaica) added 13 kills with four digs and two block assists. Rookie setter Andrew Schwab (Merrick, NY/Sanford H. Calhoun) added 16 setting assists with 10 digs, while Riley Damerell (Rochester, NY/Brighton) added 11 setting assists with three digs.

The Gators will be back in action on February 21 hosting Vassar College in a 7 p.m. non-conference contest that will take place at the Neff Center (Troy, NY).
