Men's Soccer is ECAC Tournament Bound; Gators Host Hobart on Wednesday

Centerville, MA – The Sage Colleges' men's soccer team earned the No. 4 seed in the 2013 Eastern College Athletic Conference Metro Tournament after a 10-4-4 campaign. The Gators will host the No. 5 seeded Statesmen of Hobart College in the first-round of the eight-team tournament. The contest will take place at Albany College of Pharmacy's Athletic Complex on Wednesday, November 13 at 1 p.m. The winner will advance to the semifinals and finals on November 16 and 17 at the home field of the highest remaining team's field.

Leading the team this fall is junior midfielder Gustavo Trinidad (Mamaroneck, NY/Mamaroneck) and senior defender Nick Mauro (Bristol, CT/Bristol Central) as the pair earned Skyline Conference First Team honors. Trinidad was named the 2013 Skyline Men's Soccer Player of the Year.

Overall, Trinidad leads the team with his personal-best 25 points on 9 goals and 7 assists and now has 7 game-winning goals this fall. The program's career game-winning leader, he has 10 on his career, while also owning the program's career assist mark as well with 21. He ranks second all-time with his 61 career points (20g, 21a). 

Mauro earned Skyline First Team honors as a senior defender. He has added four points this fall with a goal and two assists and has now played in 65 games at Sage and helped the team to Skyline Conference tournament appearances every season as a Gator.

Sage owns a record of 10-4-4 overall after posting a mark of 7-0-2 in Skyline Conference play. The Gators boast an experienced lineup that features six four-year letterwinners. The group includes Tim Madden (Watertown, NY/Watertown), Scott Jarosz (Brunswick, ME/Brunswick), Mauro, Matt Flaherty (Port Jefferson Station, NY/Comsewogue), Kevin Dommreis LaGrangeville, NY/LaGrangeville) and Kris Kallenbach (Bristol, CT/Bristol Central). The group has led the Gators to post-season berths in each of their years on the team. They have combined to help Sage men's soccer team with an overall record of 41-26-7 during their careers.

Jarosz, who was a candidate for the 2013 CoSIDA Academic All-District Team, has four goals this fall and eight points, while owning the career scoring records at Sage as well with 71 points (35g, 1a) as well as single-season marks for most points (44) and most goals (22) set last fall.

Rookie Christian Pinti (Slate Hill, NY/Minisink Valley) has seven points on three goals and an assist and is the team's third leading scorer.  Sophomore midfielder Luis Teran (Farmingville, NY/Newfield) checks in with three goals and six points, while junior midfielder Jose Miranda (Bay Shore, NY/Bay Shore) also has six points in two goals and two assists.

The Gators have two keepers in the lineup now with the return of 2012 Skyline Conference Second Team honoree, TJ Zehner (Beacon, NY/Beacon). Madden has laid claim to numerous career marks in goal played in 15 games for the Gators in 2013. He is 9-4-2 in goal with a 0.96 GAA and a .821 saves %. On his career, he has made 120 career saves with 14 wins, 31 games played, and 24 starts in goal, all Sage career records.  Zehner is 1-0-2 in goal this fall and has a 0.22 GAA this fall in 5 appearances, while elevating his career resume to include 88 saves, a 0.66 GAA, and 10 shutouts and a 13-4-3 career record in net. 

The Gators are the 2012 ECAC Upstate Defending Champions and are making the program's third appearance in the ECAC Tournament after garnering a bid as well in 2011.
