SAGE WOMEN'S CROSS COUNTRY TEAM HONORED BY USTFCCCA FOR ACADEMIC SUCCESS
Albany, NY— The Sage Colleges' women's cross country team has been named to the All-Academic Teams for the 2019 NCAA Division III Cross Country season were announced on Thursday by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA). Sage's women's cross country team members combined for a 3.5 grade-point-average this past fall, while competing as a member of the Empire 8 conference.
Johns Hopkins was named the NCAA Division III Cross Country Women's Scholar Team of the Year for the sixth time in the past eight years. The Blue Jays flew to yet another national title this past November at the 2019 NCAA Division III Cross Country Championships in Louisville, Kentucky. Johns Hopkins has now won six national titles, tying it with Middlebury for the second most in NCAA DIII history.
Overall, there were 212 women's teams that received All-Academic honors in NCAA Division III.
In order to qualify for All-Academic distinction, teams must have a cumulative GPA of 3.1 on a 4.0 scale, including the most recent grading period, among other qualifiers.
Sage's head coach cross country and track and field coach David Taranto said of the accomplishment, "Being named as an All-Academic team by the USTFCCCA is a great accomplishment." He continued, "It's great to see the dedication of our student athletes paying off, as they are a talented and hard working group of athletes who dedicate themselves to both running and academics. I'm looking forward to seeing them continue their academic and athletic success on the track this upcoming season and onto the cross country course next fall!"
