Sage's women's cross country team takes home eighth on opening day

Utica, NY – The Sage Colleges' women's cross country team opened action on Saturday competing at the SUNY-IT Wildcat Invitational. On the women's side, Sage's team picked up an 8th place team finish in a field of 12 teams. SUNY-Oswego won the 5 K race with their score of 43 points, while Sage finished with a score of 203 on the afternoon.

Leading the way for the Gator women's team was junior Amanda Millington (Chestertown, NY/North Warren) as she was 17th overall in 21:55. In 36th place was rookie Sabrena Smith (Woodburne, NY/Tri-Valley Central) in a time of 23:06. Picking up 44th place was junior Ashley Maresca (Brant Lake, NY/North Warren Central) in 23:43.  Next for the Gators was sophomore Elaina Ryan (Averill Park, NY/Averill Park) in 51st in 24:19, while junior Megan Lugo (West Nyack, NY/Clarkstown South) finished in 55th in 24:46. Rounding out the Gators' top seven competitors was sophomore Lauren Belfast (Ilion, NY/Ilion) in 63rd in 25:55, while senior Caitlin Coughlin (Palenville, NY/Catskill) picked up 65th in 26:01.

Sage's team is back in action on September 6 travelling to the Purchase College Invitational with an 11:30 a.m. start for the women's race and the men's competition follows at noon.
