Moisidis Surpasses 1,500 Career Digs

Moisidis

NEW PALTZ, N.Y. – Russell Sage College defensive specialist Elaina Moisidis (Albany, NY/Albany), a grad student, once again achieved a career milestone at the SUNY New Paltz Hawk Invitational. The reigning Empire 8 Conference Libero/Defensive Player of the Year, became just the fifth RSC player to surpass 1,500 career digs as the Gators concluded their weekend by splitting a pair of matches.

Moisidis, who registered her 500th career dig at the 2021 Hawk Invitational and eclipsed the 1,000 career dig mark at last year's edition, tallied six digs in the 3-0 sweep of Mount Saint Mary College and 23 digs in the 3-1 loss to Union.

The Gators hit .296 as a team and had four players record at least six kills in the sweep (25-17, 25-16, 25-16) of MSMC.

Sophomore middle hitter Aniyah Kelley (Newcastle, DE/William Penn) topped the quartet with nine kills on .375 hitting, while junior defensive specialist Macey Salvione (Johnstown, NY/Gloversville) added eight kills and 16 digs.

Junior defensive specialist Savannah Petersen (Schenectady, NY/Schenectady) tossed in seven kills on .429 hitting, and senior outside hitter Caitlin Hammecker (Warnerville, NY/Cobleskill-Richmondville) finished off six rallies on .385 hitting.

Sophomore outside hitter Jonaiya Williams led MSMC (0-5) with six kills, while sophomore setter Aubriana Boyce contributed six assists and six digs.

The trio of Salvione, Petersen, and Kelley tallied seven kills apiece against Union (25-20, 21-25, 16-25, 17-25). Salvione topped RSC with 24 digs, while Petersen added 14.

Sophomore outside hitter Shannon McGrath registered 18 kills and 21 digs to help Union (4-3) secure the comeback victory.

RSC (4-3) is slated to return to the court on Tuesday night at SUNY Cobleskill.  Opening serve is set for 7:00 PM
