Sage women's track squad narrowly edged by Pioneers

Utica, NY — The Russell Sage College women's indoor track and field program travelled to Utica College on Friday evening for a dual meet with the Pioneers.  In the women's race, Sage was edged by Utica in the final team race by just three points. Utica's women racked up 67 points to the Gators' 64 points.

Junior Natalie Ricci (Cohoes, NY/Cohoes) was first in the 200 meter run with her time of 27.56 and also second in the 60 meter dash in 8.44.

Sophomore Molly Kane (Rensselaer, NY/Columbia) won the one mile run in 6:02.16 just ahead of sophomore Evelyn Gile (Ballston Lake, NY/Shenendehowa) as she took second in 6:15.51.

Newcomer Emma Cronin (Greenwich, NY/Greenwich Central) won the 3,000 meter run in 11:17.51, while rookie Giuliana Capparello (Fonda, NY/Fonda-Fultonville) added a time of 11.12 to win the 60 meter hurdles.

Sage won the 4 x 400 meter relay with a time of 4:51.70 behind the efforts of junior Nicole Collazo (New York, NY/Repertory Company HS for the Theatre Arts), rookie Skylar Grybos (Amsterdam, NY/Amsterdam), Kane, and rookie Mackenzie Feeney (Saugerties, NY/Saugerties).

Grybos took home second in the 400 meter run with a time of 1:06.68. Adding to the Gators' success in the 60 meter dash, sophomore Shakura Murray (Schenectady, NY/Schenectady) was third in 8.55, just ahead of sophomore Julia Gerringer (Lagrangeville, NY/Arlington) who was fourth in 8.56. Rookie Caileigh Miron (Cohoes, NY/Cohoes) was fifth in the race with her time of 8.64 seconds.

In the 800 meter run, junior Kristin McAlonen (Burnt Hills, NY/Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake) was the top Sage performer with a time of 2:59.35 and picked up fourth place. Fifth place went to senior Sophia Keravich (Barrington, NH/Oyster River) as she had a time of 3:03.38. Junior Giannah French (Cherry Plain, NY/Berlin) posted a time of 3:17.39 and took home sixth place.

In the 200 meter run, Murray was second in 28.33, while freshman Victoria Johnson (Troy, NY/Lansingburgh) was next in 29.79. Fourth went to Sage's newcomer Sarah Masse (Albany, NY/Colonie Central) as she had a time of 30.94. Rookie Jasmine Zollman (Delmar, NY/Bethlehem Central) was next in sixth in 31.16.

In the long jump, Johnson had a mark of 4.31 meters and was third just ahead of Zollman's effort of 4.14 meters to take fourth. In the triple jump, freshman Monalisa Carius (Hudson, NY/Hudson) picked up second with her effort of 10.15, while Murray was right behind her in third with her leap of 10.11 meters. Johnson rounded out the Gator scorers take fourth with a leap of 9.07 meters.  Carius added a third place finish in the weight throw with a toss of 10.52 meters and rookie Fiona Mulligan (Pearl River, NY/Pearl River) finished in sixth with a toss of 9.04 meters. Carius was also second in the shot put having recorded a throw of 9.87 meters, while Mulligan was next in third place with her mark of 7.79 meters.
