ALBANY, N.Y. – Russell Sage College edged visiting Saint John Fisher 5-4 this afternoon at Myers Middle School.

Knotted at four, sophomore Tirzah Spivey (Clifton Park, NY/Schenectady) secured the Empire 8 Conference home victory by winning at number one singles: 3-6, 6-4, 7-6.

Junior Gwen Eichen (Moriah Center, NY/Moriah Central) and junior Emma Nuzzi (Glenville, NY/Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake) also were triumphant during the singles portion of the Sunday matinee, winning at number three (3-6, 6-2, 6-4) and number two (6-2, 7-6) respectively.

RSC (4-6/2-2 E8) went 2-1 in the doubles portion of the match. The top-two pairings of Nuzzi and Spivey, and Claire Connolly (Little Falls, NY/Little Falls), a graduate student, and Eichen won to give the Gators a strong start against SJFU (2-6/1-4 E8).

The Gators begin the final weekend of the regular season on Saturday at Utica.
