Gators Win E8 Opener

ALBANY, N.Y. –  Russell Sage College concluded an unbeaten four-game homestand by defeating Keuka 1-0 in this afternoon's Empire 8 Conference opener.

The Gators (4-1-1/1-0-0 E8) controlled much of the play during the Saturday matinee, taking 18 shots compared to just six for the visiting Wolves, including a 9-1 advantage in the first half.

The effort was rewarded in the 64th minute when senior forward Marissa Key (Monroe, NY/Monroe-Woodbury) netted the lone goal of the day. Sophomore defender Courtney Bush (Schenectady, NY/Mohonasen) registered the assist.

Freshman goalkeeper Olivia Horan (Mechanicville, NY/Mechanicville) (Win, 3-1-1) made four saves for her second shutout of the fall.

Senior goalkeeper Sam Pelcher (Loss) kept Keuka (1-6-1/1-1-0 E8) within striking distance throughout, recording seven saves.

RSC hits the road for the first time since September 1 on Wednesday at Elmira. The E8 matinee is set to begin at 2:00 PM.
