RSC WOMEN'S SOCCER TOPS ALFRED 2-0 IN EMPIRE 8 SEIFINALS; GATORS TO HOST E8 CHAMPIONSHIP ON SATURDAY

Albany, NY — Russell Sage College women's soccer team hosted the Empire 8 semifinals on Thursday evening hosted the No. 6 seeded Saxons of Alfred University. Seeded No. 2, the Gators beat Alfred, 2-0 on Thursday to advance to the Empire 8 Championship for the first time in program history. RSC will host the finals on Saturday night, April 17 at 7 p.m. against No. 5 seeded Utica College at ACP Stadium. Utica advanced over top seeded Nazareth advancing for the second straight contest on penalty kicks. With Thursday's victory, the Gators are now 4-2, while Alfred's season wraps with a record of 1-6.

               Sophomore defender Delaney Gillis (Hardwick, MA/Quabbin Regional) scored the first goal on a pass from junior Hallie Klosterman (Modena, NY/Wallkill) at 8:34. Klosterman served the ball on a corner kick from the right side of the field and Gillis scored her first goal of the season, which proved to be the game-winner.

               Senior midfielder Lydia Malkiewicz (Schenectady, NY/Colonie Central) added second goal for RSC at 79:21 to lead the team to the finals on a pass from junior midfielder Angela Gonzalez (Hoosick Falls, NY/Hoosick Falls Central).

               RSC's sophomore keeper Kallan Shertzer (Clifton Park, NY/Shenendehowa) collected the shutout win as she had one save in the contest and is now 4-0 this season. Alfred's sophomore keeper Hannah Fuller (Binghamton, NY/Chenango Forks) took the loss after making seven saves. The Gators held a commanding edge on shots as they had 18, while the Saxons were limited to three in very rainy conditions.
