PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. – Russell Sage College Women's Lacrosse lost 18-5 this afternoon in their opening day matchup at SUNY Plattsburgh. The Gators kept it close at the start, trailing 5-2 after the first period before the Cardinals pulled away, finishing the contest on a 13-3 scoring run.
Junior midfielder Maddy Walter (South Glens Falls, NY/South Glens Falls) led the scoring effort for the Gators with two goals while senior attacker Alexandra Queeney (Johnstown, NY/Johnstown), senior midfielder Ashley Hearn (Waterloo, NY/Waterloo), and junior attacker Aimee Rodriguez (Colonie, NY/Colonie) each added one.
Sophomore goalie Jaia Caron (Bellows Falls, VT/Bellows Falls Union) stopped seven Cardinal shots on the afternoon.
The Gators racked up 13 ground balls and 12 draw controls as a team.
SUNY Plattsburgh (1-0) had three players with three or more goals in their season-opening victory.
Sophomore attacker Cynthia Barnosky had four goals and added five assists, both of which were game-highs.
Senior attacker Fiona Fitzgerald and junior attacker Maddy Garcia each contributed three goals to the Cardinals' high scoring effort.
Plattsburgh State saw another game high with senior defender Janey Adams' four draw controls.
Cardinals freshman goalies Jess Loch and Hannah Lowder combined for 12 saves in the opener.
Looking ahead, RSC (0-1) hosts Marywood for their home opener on Sunday.
