Nazareth takes E8 women's lacrosse game from Gators

Albany, NY —Russell Sage College's women's lacrosse team hosted the Golden Flyers of Nazareth College on Saturday afternoon in an Empire 8 contest. Nazareth collected 23-3 win over the Gators to remain perfect in Empire 8 pay as they are now 4-4 overall and 3-0 in the league. RSC falls to 2-3 overall and 1-3 in the conference.

Nazareth led 15-3 at the half and a seven point performance from sophomores Emma States (Phoenix, NY/C.W. Baker) and Kate Metzler (Collegeville, PA/Spring-Ford) as States had three goals with four assists and Metzler had five goals with two assists.

RSC's lineup got a goal from rookie Alexandra Queeney (Johnstown, NY/Johnstown), sophomore Caroline Musinski (Pownal, VT/Mt. Anthony Union), and sophomore Samantha Shafer (Schenectady, NY/Schenectady) all scored once in the contest. Graduate performer Brittany Gage (Pine Bush, NY/Pine Bush) added two assists, while Queeney also handed out an assist for the Gators.

Gage continues her climb in the program's career record book. She ranks fifth in career points with 69, while standing 8th in goals with 47, and second with her 22 career assists. She is second with her 123 career ground ball pickups and second with 127 career draws. She continues to add to her active career mark for most caused turnovers as she has 71.

In goal for the Gators, senior Marina Azab (Niskayuna, NY/Niskayuna) made the start and had five saves with 15 goals allowed in 30 minutes of work. Senior Carly Plaisance (Bennington, VT/Mt. Anthony Union) worked the second half making three saves with 8 goals allowed. The senior duo continues their rise in the program's career goalkeeping marks as Azab is third with 190 career saves and Plaisance is fifth with 153 saves.  Plaisance is currently fifth with a .404 career saves percentage, while Azab is sixth with a .389 saves percentage.

Nazareth's junior Katie Lawrence (Tully, NY/Homer) collected the win and is now 3-1 in goal after she made two saves in 30 minutes of work with three goals allowed. Junior Emma Prosak (Jamesville, NY/Jamesville-Dewitt) worked the second half with one save and no goals allowed in her work in the second half.

Queeney leads the Gators with her nine points this season on seven goals with two assists, while Muskinski has eight points on six goals with two assists. Gage also has eight points on four goals with four assists. 

Sage returns to action on April 17 travelling to Houghton College for a 1 p.m. Empire 8 match-up.
