SAINT PETERSBURG, Fla. – Russell Sage College began its time competing at the St. Pete Classic, held at Eckerd College, with a 72-49 loss to Wesleyan.
Sophomore forward Aniyah Kelley (New Castle, DE/William Penn) topped the Gators with 13 points on 6-of-10 shooting and six rebounds.
Sophomore guard Layla Acosta (Haines City, FL/Haines City), playing in her home state, contributed 11 points, six rebounds and two steals, while junior guard Olivia Huneau (Cohoes, NY/Cohoes) added eight points.
Junior guard Malena Gereau (Schroon Lake, NY/Schroon Lake Central) corralled a game-high nine caroms, while junior guard Caroline Iannotti (Broadalbin, NY/Broadalbin-Perth/Fulton Montgomery CC) dished out a team-high three assists.
Wesleyan (6-3), which led by as many as 40, shot 43.8 percent from the field in the non-conference win.
Junior forward Tori DaCosta paced the Cardinals with 16 points on 8-of-12 shooting.
RSC (1-7) faces Drew tomorrow at 11:00 am.
