Gators Fall Twice at RPI on Tuesday

TROY, N.Y. – Russell Sage College softball was swept Tuesday afternoon in a doubleheader by #19 ranked Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute.

RPI (11-0-1) scored two runs in the fourth, fifth, and sixth innings to take down the Gators 7-1 in game one.

The Gators got one across the plate in the seventh, but it was not enough to take down the Engineers.

Freshman infielder Annalise Tyler (Schenectady, NY/Schalmont) headlined the offense with a two-hit, one stolen base performance. Sophomore pitcher Leah Madore (Williamsville, VT/Brattleboro Union) struck out two in the contest.

Four RPI Hitters contributed multiple hits, and starting pitcher Brooke Sroczinski struck out ten over her six innings of work.

Game two was a similar story, as the Engineers took down Russell Sage 9-1, using a six run third inning to pull away.

Sophomore infielder Ciana Santana (East Meadow, NY/East Meadow) ripped an RBI-double in the fourth inning to bring home freshman outfielder Gianna Lenartz (East Greenbush, NY/Columbia), the only hit and run of the nightcap.

Freshman pitcher Zoe Moroughan (Adams, NY/South Jefferson) was credited with the loss on the mound.

Four engineers had two or more hits in game two. Alexis Cooke walked away with the victory, punching out three in her three innings pitched.

Looking ahead, RSC (3-11) has a weekend off until they return for a doubleheader at Skidmore on Wednesday, April 3.
