RSC Softball Finishes Spring Break with Doubleheader Split

CLERMONT, Fla. - Russell Sage College Softball split a doubleheader in their final day of action in Florida, with their victory coming in game one, 3-0 over SUNY Fredonia.

Pitching was in the forefront for the Gators in game one. Freshman Zoe Moroughan (Adams, NY/South Jefferson) got the start, throwing five scoreless innings with a strikeout, before handing the reins to sophomore Leah Madore (Williamsville, VT/Brattleboro Union) who struck out three in two no-hit innings to seal the victory for RSC.

Sophomore infielder Ciana Santana (East Meadow, NY/East Meadow) drove in two runs on a triple and a sac fly to front the offense. Sophomore catcher Emma Heartquist (Stuyvesant, NY/Ichabod Crane) added a run-producing single to the scorebook.

SUNY Fredonia (0-1) saw multi-hit performances from Madison Devore, Allie Wandell, and Madison Esmond in their campaign opener.

The Gators fell in game two to Hope College (4-5) by a score of 9-2.

RSC's offense was built off of RBI hits from Heartquist and senior outfielder Isabella Vano (Yorktown Heights, NY/Yorktown).

Looking ahead, RSC (3-9) heads back north after adding three victories to the win column on their spring break trip in Florida. The Gators are back on the diamond on Saturday, March 23 as they face off with Mt. Saint Mary's College for a doubleheader.
