RSC SOFTBALL TEAM SPLITS WITH ELMIRA; GATORS' WIN STREAK HALTED AT 8

Clifton Park, NY–Russell Sage College's softball team hosted the Soaring Eagles of Elmira College on Saturday in an  Empire 8 doubleheader. RSC posted a 7-1 win in the first game to extend their win streak to eight games. Elmira took the nightcap, beating RSC 7-3.  The Gators are now 12-2 overall and in the Empire 8,while Elmira stands at 5-13 overall and 4-8 in the Empire 8.

Game #1   Sage 7-1 Elmira

RSC's sophomore Katelyn Rice (Albany, NY/Colonie Central) had a double, a triple and was 2 for 3 at the plate as the Gators combined for 11 hits. The Gators jumped out to a 3-0 lead with three runs in the bottom of the first inning and never looked back. Sophomore Makayla Lindsey (New Fairfield, CT/New Fairfield) was also 2 for 4 with two runs scored with a pair RBI's and junior Arianna Papas (Castleton, NY/Maple Hill) was 2 for 3 with two runs scored.

Junior pitcher Taylor Dicranian (Bennington, VT/Mt. Anthony Union) worked a complete game and struck out six in getting the win after allowing just one earned run off nine hits. She improved to 10-1.

Game # 2  Elmira 7-3 RSC

RSC jumped out to 2-0 lead with a pair of runs in the bottom of the first inning, but Elmira took the lead in the top of the third after they scored six runs off four hits with two Gator errors. The Gators were unable to cut the lead despite adding a run in the bottom of the sixth inning. At the plate, Papas was 3 for 3 with two runs scored, while senior

Emily Agate (Franklin Square, NY/H. Frank Carey) had a double with two RBI's and was 1 for 3.

Lindsey made the start working two plus innings with four earned runs off five hits with four strikeouts. Dicranian worked five innings with one earned run off 8 hits with a walk and a strikeout. Lindsey suffered the loss and drops to 2-1.

On the season, Papas has a team-leading .564 batting average with 31 hits, while Dicranian has a .537 batting average with eight doubles and 15 RBI's, while also standing at 10-1in the circle with a 3.05 ERA in 75.2 innings of work and has 27 strikeouts. She boasts 14 career doubles, which ranks 18th on the career list, while adding 57 career hits. In the circle, her career resume includes a 11-8 record in 140.1 innings of work and is currently 19th. She 15th in career wins, while her 5.39career ERA is 16th.  Agate now has 72 career hits in 78 career games played with 55 RBI's which ranks 20th on the career list. She also boasts 14 career doubles and is tied with Dicranian for 18th.

RSC is back in action on April 28 travelling to Utica College for an Empire 8 doubleheader.
