NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. – In a match played at Monroe College, Russell Sage College fell 3-0 this afternoon to No.9 Vassar.
Outside hitter Jarod Martel, a grad student, (Albany, NY/Colonie Central) topped the Gators with seven kills on .231 hitting.
Freshman outside hitter Dylan Fox (Albany, NY/Colonie) added three kills and five digs, while junior setter Jack McWilliam (Fishkill, NY/Arlington) distributed 14 assists.
The Brewers (17-5) hit .600 as a team and had three players with nine or more kills in the sweep (25-11, 25-14, 25-12). Junior outside hitter Payne Lounsbery had ten kills on a perfect 1.000 hitting percentage to lead the way.
RSC (6-15) hosts its "Senior Night" on Thursday at 7:00 PM vs. Elms. Before the home season finale, Martel will be recognized for his contributions to the men's volleyball program.
Gator Bites: 2024 marks the Gators first as members of the New England Volleyball Conference…League coaches picked RSC, under the direction of Reid Hartl, to finish sixth in the NEVC…The roster, which has six returnees from last season, boasts plenty of local flavor with eight student-athletes hailing from Section 2…Hartl, now in his third season, added seven newcomers to the roster, including four freshmen…Four grad students are the roster, including co-captains: libero Deshawn Fleary, (Newark, NJ/Immaculate Conception Montclair), and Martel…Fox was selected the NEVC Rookie of the Week twice this spring…He earned the accolade for the periods ending January 21 and February 11...Martel totaled 25 kills, 3.12 per set, on .222 hitting, and 11 digs across two matches this week...Fox tallied 14 kills, 14 digs, and five total blocks, while McWilliam averaged 6.50 assists per set in the 1-1 week.
