ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, N.Y. – Visiting Russell Sage College edged Bard 3-2 tonight in New England Volleyball Conference action. The Gators won by scores of 25-19, 18-25, 25-17, 22-25, 15-13.
Outside hitter Jarod Martel, a grad student, (Albany, NY/Colonie Central), led all participants with 18 kills on .220 hitting, while junior setter Jack McWilliam (Fishkill, NY/Arlington) registered a double-double of 38 assists and 10 digs, and three aces.
Freshman outside hitter Dylan Fox (Albany, NY/Colonie) contributed 11 kills, nine digs, and five total blocks, while junior middle hitter Marcus Gentile (Delmar, NY/Bethlehem Central) added eight kills on .727 hitting.
Bard (8-11/1-2 NEVC) had three players tally 12+ kills in the home setback.
Freshman outside hitter Kincade Avery recorded 12 kills and nine digs, while sophomore setter Georgi Chikolov distributed 36 helpers.
Looking ahead, RSC (6-14/1-4 NEVC) faces Vassar and Monroe on Saturday evening.
Gator Bites: 2024 marks the Gators first as members of the New England Volleyball Conference…League coaches picked RSC, under the direction of Reid Hartl, to finish sixth in the NEVC…The roster, which has six returnees from last season, boasts plenty of local flavor with eight student-athletes hailing from Section 2…Hartl, now in his third season, added seven newcomers to the roster, including four freshmen…Four grad students are the roster, including co-captains: libero Deshawn Fleary, (Newark, NJ/Immaculate Conception Montclair), and Martel…Fox was selected the NEVC Rookie of the Week twice this spring…He earned the accolade for the periods ending January 21 and February 11.
