ALBANY, N.Y. – In front of a large crowd on "Section 2 Night", Russell Sage College was edged 3-0 (25-18, 25-22, 25-20) by visiting SUNY Poly this evening inside the Kahl Campus Center.
Outside hitter Jarod Martel, a grad student, (Albany, NY/Colonie Central) and freshman outside hitter Dylan Fox (Albany, NY/Colonie) topped the Gators with eight kills apiece. Fox, announced as the New England Volleyball Conference Rookie of the Week on Tuesday, registered five digs and two aces, while sophomore setter Connor Murphy (Sudbury, MA/Lincoln-Sudbury) tallied 13 assists.
SUNY Poly (1-4) received multiple kills from six different players to secure its first victory of the young spring. Sophomore outside hitter Peter Gottier recorded six kills and eight digs, while sophomore setter Joshua Slater (Albany, NY/Colonie) distributed 21 assists in the sweep.
RSC (0-3) wraps up a four-match homestand to begin the spring on Saturday vs. Elms. Opening serve is set for noon.
"Section 2 Night": In between tonight's second and third sets, RSC Men's Volleyball recognized members of the Section 2 Volleyball community in attendance. Eight Gators hail from Section 2, while the visiting Wildcats have four local players on their roster.
Gator Bites: 2024 marks the Gators first as members of the New England Volleyball Conference…League coaches picked RSC, under the direction of Reid Hartl, to finish sixth in the NEVC…The roster, which has six returnees from last season, boasts plenty of local flavor with eight student-athletes hailing from Section 2…Hartl, now in his third season, added seven newcomers to the roster, including four freshmen…Four grad students are the roster, including co-captains: Deshawn Fleary, a grad student, (Newark, NJ/Immaculate Conception Montclair), an opposite, and Martel.
