UTICA, N.Y. – Russell Sage College lost its New England Collegiate Conference opener 3-0 tonight at SUNY Poly.
Senior opposite Deshawn Fleary (Newark, NJ/Immaculate Conception Montclair) topped the Gators with three kills, three digs, and a block.
Setter Ryan Jennings (North Brunswick, NJ/North Brunswick Twp.), a graduate student, recorded eight assists, while junior outside hitter Corey Topple (Hudson, NY/Hudson) added two kills and a like number of digs.
SUNY Poly (8-10/1-0 NECC), now winners of five-straight games, totaled nine blocks and hit .493 as a team in the sweep.
Middle hitter Garrett Hassard, a grad student, led the Wildcats with 12 kills on .698 hitting, while junior setter Nathan Farnham registered 33 assists and five aces.
Looking ahead, RSC (4-16/0-1 NECC) hosts Nichols on Saturday at 5:00 PM.
Notes: The Gators are making its debut as an associate member of the New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) this season…League coaches picked the Gators to finish sixth in the NECC…The spring also marks the maiden voyage with Reid Hartl at the helm of the program…He took over as head coach in October 2021…Fleary and Jennings were the only two players that returned from the 2020 RSC team…Jennings became just the second Gator to surpass 2,000 career assists on Saturday at Wells.
