Gators drop season-opener to SUNY-Polytechnic

Marcy, NY– The Sage Colleges' men's volleyball opened the new season on Wednesday evening travelling to face the Wildcats of the SUNY-Polytechnic Institute. The Wildcats collected a 3-0 win as they triumphed over the Gators and improve to 4-1 on the year. Sage falls to 0-1 on the young season. The Wildcats won the first set 25-15, the second set 25-21 and took the match with a 25-18 in the final and decisive set.

Sage's rookie outside hitter, Bailey Cecchi (Agawam, MA/Agawam) tallied a match-high 16 kills in his collegiate debut, while adding eight digs. Sophomore co-captain Chris MacArthur (Hillsdale, NY/Taconic Hills) added five kills with five digs and a block assist after hitting .286 for the match.

Freshman setter Tyler Bastos (Ludlow, MA/Ludlow) finished with 24 setting assists, while adding seven digs and a solo block. Rookie Casey Fitzpatrick (Haverhill, MA/Haverhill) added five kills and a team-best nine digs for the Gators.

Sage returns to action on January 31 travelling to Rutgers University-Newark to compete in the Golden Dome Classic. Sage faces Brooklyn College at 2 p.m. and the host Scarlet Raiders at 4 p.m. on Saturday.
