Three Gators Score Hat Tricks in Non-Conference Victory

CASTLETON, V.T. – Russell Sage College men's lacrosse had seven goal scorers including three with hat tricks in an 18-12 non-conference victory over Castleton on Tuesday afternoon.

The game was square at eight heading into the break, before the Gators pulled ahead thanks to a seven goal third period. 

Sophomore attacker Nate Kettle (Killbuck, NY/Salamanca) and midfielder Shea Obado (Spotswood, NJ/Spotswood), a graduate student, each contributed eight or more points on the afternoon.

Kettle scored six goals and assisted three teammates, while Obado dished the pill five times and scored three goals.

Obado scooped up six ground balls, enough to reach the 250 mark for his RSC career. 

The third Gator hat trick came from senior midfielder Anthony Marrone (Monroe, NJ/Monroe Township), who scored four goals, all of which came in the second half.

Sophomore midfielder Gamo Koulibaly (Aurora, CO/Rangeview) went 18-30 in the X and picked up a game-high nine ground balls, the same total as junior defender Drew Rankin (Painted Post, NY/Corning Painted Post).  

Sophomore goalkeeper Andrew Collora (West Babylon, NY/West Babylon) was the winning goalie, registering six saves and moving to 2-0 on the campaign.

Castleton moves to 1-9 with the loss. Junior goalie Zac Smith was credited with the loss (1-7).

The Spartans were led by senior midfielder Cam Frankenhoff, who scored a team-high five goals.

Looking ahead, the Gators (3-8) are back on the field on Saturday for an Empire 8 conference matchup at Keuka.


Gators Bites: The Gators returned 24 players to this year's edition… Attacker Bailey Martin (Syracuse, NY/Onondaga Central), a graduate student, and sophomore attacker Nate Kettle (Killbuck, NY/Salamanca) headline the group…Martin began the spring as the program career in points (139), goals (91), and assists (48)…Kettle, voted a co-captain as a sophomore, capped his rookie campaign with a second-team All-Empire 8 Conference honor…Junior defender Drew Rankin (Painted Post, NY/Corning Painted Post), junior midfielder Akili Richardson (Bronx, NY/Frederick Douglass Academy), Kettle, and senior midfielder Jake McElwee (Jackson, NJ/Jackson Liberty) were voted co-captains.
