ALBANY, N.Y. – Russell Sage College began Empire 8 Conference play with a 22-10 setback to visiting Nazareth this afternoon.
The visiting Golden Flyers, which out-shot RSC 56-32 and won 23-of-35 face-offs, closed the first quarter on an 8-0 run. The deciding stretch put the Gators down 10-2 after the opening period and 14-5 at the break.
A quartet of Gators registered at least two goals in the conference opener. (2-6/0-0 E8)
Sophomore attacker Nate Kettle (Killbuck, NY/Salamanca) led the way with three goals and two assists. Senior midfielder Jake McElwee (Jackson, NJ/Jackson Liberty) added two goals and two assists, while midfielder Shea Obado (Spotswood, NJ/Spotswood), a graduate student,and senior attacker Ryan Hanna (Flanders, NJ/Mt. Olive)each fired two into the net.
Sophomore attacker Kyle Rosenberger paced the Golden Flyers (7-3/1-0 E8), now winners of four in-a-row, with five goals and one assist.
RSC (2-7/0-1 E8) continues E8 action on Saturday afternoon at Alfred.
Gator Bites: The Gators returned 24 players to this year's edition…Attacker Bailey Martin (Syracuse, NY/Onondaga Central), a graduate student, and sophomore attacker Nate Kettle (Killbuck, NY/Salamanca) headline the group…Martin began the spring as the program career in points (139), goals (91), and assists (48)…Kettle, voted a co-captain as a sophomore, capped his rookie campaign with a second-team All-Empire 8 Conference honor…Junior defender Drew Rankin (Painted Post, NY/Corning Painted Post), junior midfielder Akili Richardson (Bronx, NY/Frederick Douglass Academy), Kettle, and senior midfielder Jake McElwee (Jackson, NJ/Jackson Liberty) were voted co-captains…Kettle was named the E8 Player of the Week for the period ending March 17…He tallied 11 points on seven goals and four assists in the 2-0 week.
