Nine Gators Score in Saturday Afternoon Victory

ALBANY, N.Y. –  Russell Sage College men's lacrosse used a 8-1 first half lead to take down visiting St. Joseph's University (Long Island) 16-3 on Saturday afternoon, marking the second consecutive win for coach Lanigan's squad.

The Gators used a well-rounded offensive effort on the way to the victory, with nine different players finding the back of the net. Sophomore attacker Nate Kettle (Killbuck, NY/Salamanca) and junior midfielder Aidan Nichter (Glenville, NY/Scotia-Glenville) each contributed a hat trick in the victory.

Midfielder Shea Obado (Spotswood, NJ/Spotswood), a graduate student, senior midfielder Anthony Marrone (Monroe, NJ/Monroe Township) and junior defender Joe Johnson (Gansevoort, NY/South Glens Falls) all scored twice, while senior attacker Ryan Hanna (Flanders, NJ/Mt. Olive), sophomore attacker Mame Diba (New York, NY/Haldane), junior attacker Kollin Matthews (Marcy, NY/Whitesboro), and sophomore defender Matthew DeSocio (Queensbury, NY/Queensbury) all scored once.

RSC combined for ten caused turnovers and scooped up 33 ground balls on the afternoon. Goalkeeper Collin Dougherty (East Greenbush, NY/Columbia), a graduate student, registered two saves and  sophomore goalkeeper Andrew Collora (West Babylon, NY/West Babylon) stopped four shots. 

SJU (0-3) was led by freshman attacker Caden Stubba, who scored two of the Golden Eagles' three goals. Senior midfielder Michael Carere had a game-high 11 ground balls. 

RSC (2-6), in the midst of a stretch of four-consecutive home games, begins Empire 8 Conference play on Saturday vs. Nazareth.  Opening face-off is slated for 1:00 pm.


Gator Bites: The Gators returned 24 players to this year’s edition…Attacker Bailey Martin (Syracuse, NY/Onondaga Central), a graduate student, and sophomore attacker Nate Kettle (Killbuck, NY/Salamanca) headline the group…Martin began the spring as the program career in points (139), goals (91), and assists (48)…Kettle, voted a co-captain as a sophomore, capped his rookie campaign with a second-team All-Empire 8 Conference honor…Junior defender Drew Rankin (Painted Post, NY/Corning Painted Post), junior midfielder Akili Richardson (Bronx, NY/Frederick Douglass Academy), Kettle, and senior midfielder Jake McElwee (Jackson, NJ/Jackson Liberty) were voted co-captains.
