DANBURY, Conn. – Western Connecticut State outscored visiting Russell Sage College 9-2 in the opening quarter of what became a 19-4 non-conference final.
Senior midfielder Anthony Marrone (Monroe, NJ/Monroe Township) registered a goal and assist for the Gators.
WestConn (3-1), which led 12-3 at the break, out-shot RSC 20-4 in the first 15 minutes and won 19-of-26 face-offs on the rainy Wednesday night.
Junior attacker Julian Duque topped WCSU with six goals.
The Gators (0-6) continue their tour of the Connecticut lacrosse scene on Tuesday when Eastern Conn. State visits the ACP Athletic Complex for a 7:00 pm contest.
Gator Bites: The Gators returned 24 players to this year’s edition…Attacker Bailey Martin (Syracuse, NY/Onondaga Central), a graduate student, and sophomore attacker Nate Kettle (Killbuck, NY/Salamanca) headline the group…Martin began the spring as the program career in points (139), goals (91), and assists (48)…Kettle, voted a co-captain as a sophomore, capped his rookie campaign with a second-team All-Empire 8 Conference honor…Junior defender Drew Rankin (Painted Post, NY/Corning Painted Post), junior midfielder Akili Richardson (Bronx, NY/Frederick Douglass Academy), Kettle, and senior midfielder Jake McElwee (Jackson, NJ/Jackson Liberty) were voted co-captains.
