Visiting Misericordia Holds Off Gators 15-9

ALBANY – Four different Russell Sage College players scored two goals in Friday afternoon's 15-9 home non-conference loss to Misericordia.

Sophomore attacker Nate Kettle (Killbuck, NY/Salamanca) led the Gators with two goals and two assists, while senior midfielder Anthony Marrone (Monroe, NJ/Monroe Township) tallied two goals and an assist.

Sophomore attacker Mame Diba (New York, NY/Haldane) and attacker Bailey Martin (Syracuse, NY/Onondaga Central), a graduate student, fired two goals home each, while goalkeeper Collin Dougherty (East Greenbush, NY/Columbia), a graduate student, stopped 10 Misericordia shots.

RSC won 14-of-25 face-offs on Friday afternoon. Junior midfielder Dean Sampson (Staten Island, NY/Tottenville) keyed the effort with a 9-of-13 showing. He topped all participants with eight groundballs, while sophomore defender Brady Dubay (Altamont, NY/CBA) caused a game-high three turnovers.

Misericordia (2-0) used a 7-1 first half run to hold a 10-5 lead at the break. The work in the X by Sampson, sophomore midfielder Gamo Koulibaly (Aurora, CO/Rangeview) and senior midfielder Ryan Hanna (Flanders, NJ/Mt. Olive), helped the Gators climb back into the game during the third quarter. RSC got within four on multiple occasions, including 12-8 heading into the fourth period, but could not get any closer. 

Sophomore attacker Connor Bevan provided the Cougars with eight points on five goals and three assists in the road triumph.

RSC (0-3) plays next at Wentworth on Wednesday at 6:00 pm.


Gator Bites: The Gators returned 24 players to this year’s edition…Martin and Kettle headline the group…Martin began the spring as the program career in points (139), goals (91), and assists (48)…Kettle, voted a co-captain as a sophomore, capped his rookie campaign with a second-team All-Empire 8 Conference honor…Junior defender Drew Rankin (Painted Post, NY/Corning Painted Post), junior midfielder Akili Richardson (Bronx, NY/Frederick Douglass Academy), Kettle, and senior midfielder Jake McElwee (Jackson, NJ/Jackson Liberty) were voted co-captains...Sampson went 13-of-18 with 11 groundballs across two games this week.
