MILTON, Mass. – Russell Sage College Men's Lacrosse got on the Premiere buses for the first time this spring to take on Curry College on Wednesday night. The Colonels got out to a 4-0 lead after the opening quarter to take the non-conference game 7-3.
Attacker Bailey Martin (Syracuse, NY/Onondaga Central), a graduate student, the program's career scoring leader, got the Gators back into things with a pair of second period goals.
Up 4-2 at the break, Curry (1-1) regained control with the next three goals.
Junior attacker Kollin Matthews (Marcy, NY/Whitesboro) broke the hosts' run with what proved to be the final goal of the night with 3:56 remaining.
Sophomore attacker Nate Kettle (Killbuck, NY/Salamanca) and senior midfielder Anthony Marrone (Monroe, NJ/Monroe Township) tallied assists, while goalkeeper Collin Dougherty (East Greenbush, NY/Columbia), a graduate student, turned aside nine Curry shots.
RSC, which out-shot the Colonels 23-11 in the second half, controlled the X, winning 10 of the 14 face-offs. Sophomore Gamo Koulibaly (Aurora, CO/Rangeview) went 6-of-9, while junior Dean Sampson (Staten Island, NY/Tottenville) was 4-of-5.
Senior attacker Dom Cerone topped the victors with three goals and an assist.
RSC (0-2) returns home to face Misericordia on Friday at 4:00 pm.
Gator Bites: The Gators returned 24 players to this year’s edition…Martin and Kettle headline the group…Martin began the spring as the program career in points (139), goals (91), and assists (48)…Kettle, voted a co-captain as a sophomore, capped his rookie campaign with a second-team All-Empire 8 Conference honor…Junior defender Drew Rankin (Painted Post, NY/Corning Painted Post), junior midfielder Akili Richardson (Bronx, NY/Frederick Douglass Academy), Kettle, and senior midfielder Jake McElwee (Jackson, NJ/Jackson Liberty) were voted co-captains.
