Gators Finish Among NCAA Stats Leaders

ALBANY, N.Y. – With Middlebury having defeated Johns Hopkins for the NCAA Division III Field Hockey Championship for the third-straight time on Sunday, the national field hockey stat rankings became finalized. Russell Sage College had many noteworthy statistical accomplishments as it qualified for the Empire 8 Conference Championship Tournament for the first time this fall.

Midfielder Amy Stevens (Castle Creek, NY/Whitney Point), a grad student, established single-season program records of 49 points and 20 goals en route to being voted the Empire 8 Conference Offensive Player of the Year. Her averages of 3.06 points and 1.25 goals both ranked sixth in the country and led the E8.

Forward Alyssa Fitzgerald (Queensbury, NY/Queensbury), a grad student, who joined Stevens on the All-E8 Conference first-team, registered 36 points, 2.25 per-game, and 17 goals. She ranked 15th in NCAA Division III with 1.06 goals per-game. Fitzgerald, scored a program-record four goals in a game twice this autumn.

Freshman midfielder Cheyanne Zobel (Clifton Park, NY/Shenendehowa) dished out a program-record 12 assists during her rookie campaign. The third-team All-E8 pick ranked seventh nationally and second in the Conference with 0.75 assists per-game. She established the RSC single-game record with four assists in the October 21.

The Gators (6-10), under the direction of Interim Head Coach Nick Pontari, finished 16th nationally with 3.81 goals per-game and 18th with 9.75 points per-game.  Both averages fell second within the E8.

On the defensive side, midfielder Alexa Wentz (Whitney Point, NY/ Whitney Point), a grad student, ranked 12th nationally and second in the E8 with nine defensive saves. She contributed 17 points on six goals and five assists and helped RSC total 15 defensive saves, good for 23rd in the country.
