RSC Takes Defending E8 Champs to OT

Fitzgerald

ALBANY, N.Y. – Russell Sage College took visiting Hartwick, the defending Empire 8 Conference Champs, to overtime before falling 2-1 tonight at UAlbany.

In the extra session, the Hawks (7-1/3-0 E8), now sporting a 27-4 conference record since 2019, blitzed RSC, taking the first six shots.

The Gators (3-6/0-3 E8) countered and appeared to end the Hartwick E8 winning streak, currently at 15, with a bouncing goal into the back of the cage. However, the shot was ruled to be dangerous and the contest continued.

Off the restart, senior midfielder Julie Ruzzi, a two-time All-Region and All-E8 pick, went the other way and scored her second goal of the night to end it.

Midfielder Amy Stevens (Castle Creek, NY/Whitney Point), a grad student, recorded the lone RSC goal late in the third quarter, while sophomore goalkeeper Jaia Caron (Bellows Falls, VT/Bellows Falls Union) (Loss, 3-6) stopped 11 Hartwick shots. Tonight marked the seventh time this fall that Caron made double-digit saves.

The Gators, which were out-shot 27-1 and took only two corners compared to 14 for Hartwick, host Keuka on Saturday at 3:00 pm.
