Field Hockey Record Book Requires Updating Following Shutout Victory

Sara O'Connor

AURORA, N.Y. – Russell Sage College forward Sara O'Connor (Rexford, NY/Niskayuna), a grad student, scored a program single-game record four goals in Thursday's 12-0 non-conference win at Wells.

O'Connor, the RSC all-time leading scorer, equaled a program single-game standard with eight points and was one of five Gators to register multiple points in the shutout victory.

Freshman midfielder Cheyanne Zobel (Clifton Park, NY/Shenendehowa) added two goals and tied a program-record with three assists to help RSC (3-4) tally its second-most goals in a single-game. The output only trailed the 13 that the Gators scored vs. Wells on September 27, 2019.

RSC kept Wells (0-6) freshman goalkeeper Sadie Combs busy, outshooting the hosts 43-0. The rookie made 12 saves on the night.

The Gators return to Empire 8 Conference play on Saturday at Houghton. Start time is slated for 1:00 pm.

Notes: O'Connor is the program record holder for career points (77), goals (32) and assists (13)...She boasts three of the top-seven single-season scoring campaigns, including a program-best 42 points in 2019...Between her, forward Alyssa Fitzgerald (Queensbury, NY/Queensbury), a grad student, and midfielder Amy Stevens (Castle Creek, NY/Whitney Point), a grad student, the trio holds four of the top-seven RSC single-season scoring performances.
