Albany, NY—Russell Sage College's department of athletics announced their award winners for the 2021-2022 academic year at the annual awards banquet. In addition to several honors bestowed for athletic and academic excellence, Sage also selected the Gator of the Year Award for the department's 21 varsity sports for the 2021-2022 year.
One of the new varsity programs at RSC, esports awarded their first Gator of the Year award to rookie Geri'lynn Felicier-Norton (Bronx, NY). The award is presented to a student-athlete that worked hard to hone her gaming skills and learn her game. She spent countless hours beyond the scheduled practices and really developed her skills and brought her game in Valorant to a new level. Not just a member of the esports' team, she has excelled in the classroom and works on campus as a proctor and in the library.
Head eSports Coach Luke Martin commented "Geri'lynn was the embodiment of what we strive for in a student-athlete on the esports team." He added, "She constantly showed up to practice and worked as hard as possible staying extra hours after to put in additional work. Any chance she got to learn more about her game to improve herself and her skills, she put in the time to do it. From the beginning of the year to now her growth as a player has put her on a level where most of the rest of the team aspire to develop the same habits as her. On top of her play when it came to competitions, Geri'lynn was an overall amazing character to be around this year. She quickly took to the social lead of our program, always helping others and bringing new players into the lab."
