Gators Rally to Capture Florida Trip Opener

AUBURNDALE, Fla. – Russell Sage College commenced its Florida trip by defeating North Central University 15-5 in seven innings on Saturday evening.

Trailing 5-3, going to the bottom of the fifth, the Gators scored three runs in the fifth, another three in sixth, before erupting for six runs in the seventh to end things early.

Junior outfielder Brendan Espinal (Clifton Park, NY/Shenendehowa) and outfielder James Lubanski (Port Washington, NY/Paul D. Schreiber), a grad student, each went 3-for-5 with three runs scored and two RBI to help RSC secure the comeback victory.

Junior pitcher Jaylen Cuevas (Bronx, NY/Fordham Prep) tossed 2.2 hitless innings to earn the win. The righty whiffed five Rams during his relief appearance.

Senior catcher Julian Encinas went 3-for-4 with two runs scored to pace North Central (0-2)

RSC (1-3) continues its time at the RussMatt Central Invitational tomorrow with a doubleheader against Chatham.


Gator Bites: Entering its third season as a program, RSC looks to continue to climb the Empire 8 Conference ladder in 2024…The Gators, which returned all 10 starters, were the runner-up in the 2023 E8 Championship Tournament…Lubanski and junior pitcher Liam Doyle (West Sayville, NY/Connetquot) headline the returnees…Lubanski was named third-team All-Region by the American Baseball Coaches Association, while Doyle, a righty, topped RSC in innings pitched and ERA last spring.
