Fall Portion of 2021-22 Empire 8 Men’s Golf Championship to Take Place This Weekend

The fall portion of the 2021-22 Empire 8 Men’s Golf Championship is set to take place October 2-3 at Timber Banks Golf Club in Baldwinsville, NY. Each of the seven Empire 8 teams will play 36 holes of golf this weekend, 18 holes on Saturday and 18 on Sunday. Fans can follow along with live scoring.
 
This weekend marks the first half of the 2021-22 championship, with the 36-hole spring portion of the E8 Championship scheduled for April 15-16, 2022, at Hershey Country Club. The team with the lowest score at the conclusion of the four rounds will be crowned league champion. The 2021-22 Empire 8 Champion receives an automatic berth into the 2022 NCAA Division III Men’s Golf Championship, set for May 10-13 at Mission Inn Resort and Club in Howey-in-the-Hills, FL.
 
Utica is set to defend its Empire 8 Championship in 2021-22 and returns four of its six competing golfers from the title team. Senior Josh Kienz returns to defend his Empire 8 Championship and attempt to earn All-Empire 8 first team honors for the fourth time. Classmate Joe Miga is looking to become a four-time All-Empire 8 selection, earning second team honors in 2018-19 and first team accolades in each of the last two seasons. Senior Nick Visconti and sophomore Adam Woodmansee also return after garnering All-Empire 8 second team honors last spring, while graduate student Brett Everson and sophomore Blake Holmes will also represent the Pioneers this weekend.  
 
St. John Fisher had its streak of nine straight league titles snapped last spring. The Cardinals will look to win their 17th Empire 8 title this season. First year standout Richard Juodatis and sophomore Luke Buckley, a 2021 All-E8 second team selection and reigning Empire 8 Player of the Week will look to lead the way. Graduate student Matthew McGaugh, who also earned Empire 8 Player of the Week honors this season is set to represent the Cardinals, along with freshman Bryce Barber and sophomores Nicholas Tellone and Brendan Evans.
 
SUNY Oswego will look to vault to the top of the Empire 8 leaderboard this season after placing third last spring. Senior Ryan Fecco, last season’s Empire 8 individual runner-up is back and in the mix for individual medalist honors in 2021-22. First-year standouts Jake Owens and Carter McWilliams, along with junior Anthony Robinson and seniors Max Mastrogiacomo and Joe Marszalek are set to lead Oswego at the fall championship.
 
The Golden Flyers of Nazareth will look continue its ascent towards a league title 2021-22 after placing fourth last spring at the Empire 8 Championship. Senior Jake Costa, the 2018-19 Empire 8 Rookie of the Year, will look to earn his third All-Empire 8 accolade this season and will be a contender for medalist honors. Sophomore Tom McIntosh, Nazareth’s E8 Sportsman of the Year in 2020-21, along with juniors Jake Peters and Seth Terzo and seniors Ray Falso and JT Entelisano are set to compete for the Golden Flyers.
 
The Elmira Soaring Eagles placed fifth at last spring’s Empire 8 Championship and have competed in five events this fall. Junior Derek Countryman, who earned 2019-20 Empire 8 Sportsman of the Year honors, along with sophomores Nicholas Domitrovic, Shane Haviland and Liam Sanborn and first-year standouts Hunter Bloomer and Charles Grandaw will lead Elmira at the fall championship.
 
Russell Sage will look to improve off its sixth place finish last spring at the E8 Championship. Graduate student Blake Pritchard is back and will be in the mix for individual medalist honors after placing third last spring. He will look to earn his third All-Empire 8 honor this season. Senior Stuart Phair is a two-time Empire 8 Player of the Week this season and was Russell Sage’s Sportsman of the Year in 2020-21. Sophomore Austin Carpenter, freshman Shane Kammerman, senior Aidan O’Neil and graduate student Ethan Peters will also compete for the Gators this weekend.
 
Keuka makes its Empire 8 debut in 2021-22. The Wolves placed sixth overall at the 2018-19 NEAC Championship. Sophomore Ryan Sisco, senior Matt Ciezki, junior Ryan Schouten, junior Desta Hailu and sophomore Mitchell Miletich will be counted on to lead the way for Keuka.
