Sage women's harriers finish in 7th at Empire 8 Championship

Alfred, NY—The Sage Colleges' women's and men's cross country squads were in action on Saturday at the Empire 8 Championship hosted by Alfred University at Jericho Hills Field. Despite the terrible conditions, Sage's women's team managed a seventh place team finish.

Utica College won the women's and men's team titles on the day. In the women's race, the Pioneers posted a team score of 58 and Sage finished in seventh place with a score of 180. Utica also won the men's race with a score of 43 points. Sage's men's team was incomplete and did not score.

Freshman runner Kerry Flower (Schenectady, NY/Schalmont) posted a time of 27:27.37 and took home 17th place.  Senior co-captain Victoria Opalka (Forth Johnson, NY/Broadalbin-Perth) ran the race in 29:23.17 and finished 37th.

Senior co-captain Sagan Leggett (Valatie, NY/Ichabod Crane) was next in 38th place in 29:33.79, while sophomore Sevi Travis (Cohoes, NY/Shaker) was next in 43rd place in 30:10.05.

Newcomer Kristin McAlonen (Burnt Hills, NY/Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake) took 45th in 30:30.41. 288th in 25:52.1. Sophomore Sophia Keravich (Barrington, NH/Oyster River) posted a time of 31:07.88 and picked up 50th place. Junior Amanda Jones (West Sand Lake, NY/Columbia) posted a time of 31:50.30 and took 55th. Freshman runner Giannah French (Cherry Plain, NY/Berlin) was the final Sage runner in 79th place in 36:08.63.

Next up Sage will be back in action on November 10 travelling to the 2018 NCAA Division III Regionals, hosted by Rowan University at the Dream Park in Logan Township, NJ.
