Sage women's cross country races to a 3rd place finish at Skyline Championships

MILTON, NY – The Sage women's cross country team claimed third place at the Skyline Championship Meet Sunday afternoon.

The Gators were led by Hannah Tighe, Amanda Millington and Sagan Leggett with top 20 finishes in the 93-runner field. Tighe and Millington worked together to finish in 17th and 18th place with times of 22:30.5 and 22:55.8 respectively. Leggett finished fourth among Skyline freshmen in her 23:10.6 20th place finish.

Ashley Meresca edged Yeshiva's Shoshana Mond for the 29th spot by .5 seconds with a time of 23:50.5.

Ellyn Fisher brought in a no. five finish for the Gators with a 35th place time of 24:28.2.

Aanisha Taylor broke into the top 40 by edging Farmingdale's Megan Eiseman by 1.2 seconds with a 24:57.2 finish.

Finishing in the final scoring spot for Sage was Megan Lugo with a 47th place finish of 25:14.8.

Samantha Phelps, Lauren Belfast and Kayla Hartman all finished within seven seconds of one another with times of 25:17.3, 25:24.2 and 25:24.8 respectively.

Rounding out the field for Sage was Hannah French (25:51.8), Morgan Rush (26:21.9), Melissa Grimaldi (26:53.8), Kelly DiBiaso (32:14.1), Leanne Egan (32:58.7) and Michelle Tanner (40:07.3).

The individual winner of the meet was St. Joseph's (Long Island) Samantha Maurice with a time of 20:36.3.

Sage was predicted to finish 3rd in the preseason coaches poll and did so with 104 points. St. Joseph's (L.I.) was named the 2015 Skyline Champion with a 15 point finish.

The Gators are set to travel to the NCAA Division III Regional Meet on Sun. Nov. 14 at a site to be determined.
