Sage women's runners open year at SUNY-IT Meet

Utica, NY---The Sage Colleges women's cross country team opened the new season on Saturday competing at the SUNY-IT Wildcat Invitational.

The Gator women's cross country team was also in action in the opening day meet at SUNY-IT. The 5k event was won by Ashton Villeneuve picked up first in 19:27. Oswego State won the team with a score of 45, while Sage finished in 8th place with a score of 206. 

The top finisher for Sage was sophomore Amanda Millington (Chestertown, NY/North Warren) with a time of 22:04 to finish in 25th place. Next to finish for Sage in 34th place was sophomore Ashley Maresca (Brant Lake, NY/North Warren Central) in 22:33.

Sophomore co-captain Alaina Krueger (Selkirk, NY/Ravena-Coeymans-Selkirk) picked up 40th place in 23:12. Freshman Lauren Belfast (Ilion, NY/Ilion) was next in 51st place in 24:14. Junior co-captain Caitlin Coughlin (Palenville, NY/Catskill) was next  in 56th place in 25:13 as the final place finisher for the Gators. Rookie Stephanie Schmidt (Holland Patent, NY/Holland Patent) picked up 57th place in 25:54, while sophomore Megan Lugo (West Nyack, NY/Clarkstown South) finished in 63rd place in 26:31.

Sage returns to action on September 7 travelling to Castleton State College for their invitational.
